GREAT LENGTHS Natural Pools Part Of Port Project

The capital’s coastline will enjoy further regeneration with the addition of two natural swimming pools in 2020…..

The island government last week floated the idea of constructing two natural swimming pools at Puerto Marmoles, the main ferry port located on the outskirts of Arrecife which is due for expansion in 2019.

Natural pools are popular in the Canaries and a common feature in other large cities in the archipelago, such as Puerto de la Cruz. Providing safe swimming conditions for citizens all year round.

The pools project encompasses the creation of two pools right next to the main ferry dock, one of Olympic dimensions and the other for swimmers with disabilities.

Finance is forthcoming from the Canarian Development Fund and work is expected to commence in 2020.

The project forms part of a larger plan to dynamise Arrecife and comes on the back of a recent announcement about the 1.3 million euro redevelopment of the waterfront swimming complex at the Islote Fermina.
